FAQs

01How do I know if I'm eligible for NDIS Specialist Disability Accommodation?

NDIS Specialist Disability Accommodation is a range of housing suitable for participants facing extreme functional impairment. These houses are designed with accessible features that assist residents to live more independently. If you also have high support needs and feel that a specialist dwelling will be beneficial to attain your goals, then you can convey the same to NDIA.

02 How can I apply for NDIS Housing in Sydney?

You can convey your requirement for funding for NDIS housing during the NDIS plan meeting. You will have to demonstrate the existing barriers that showcase that you need a lot of additional support and that not many alternatives are available. If they feel the need to be reasonable and necessary, they will include the funding in your NDIS plan. However, NDIS doesn't directly manage the properties.

For that, you will need assistance from either:

  • A support worker
  • A support coordinator or
  • An occupational therapist who has knowledge of SDA processes is needed.

They can offer you housing suitable for your needs per the NDIS plan.

03What are the benefits of living in NDIS Specialist Disability Accommodation?

Our NDIS accommodation in Sydney strives to offer several advantages to the participants, including:

  • Increased independence through purpose-built features and 24/ on-site support services
  • Features such as wheelchair accessibility, ramps and more to promote safety and make daily tasks easier.
  • Choosing what you want to do and how you want to spend every day.

Above all, the NDIS participants have a comfortable and safe space.

04Can family members visit or stay in SDA?

Absolutely! SDA housing is designed to support your individual needs, and depending on your situation and the specific dwelling, that can include visits or even co-residency with family members.

05 What is the process of moving into SDA?

After you get the funding for NDIS accommodation in the plan, all you need to do is find the most suitable dwelling. Your support provider or support coordinator can assist you with this. When convinced that the place meets your specific needs and preferences, you can then proceed to move into the space.

06If I already have home modifications funded by the NDIS, can I apply for SDA?

As per the SDA rule, a dwelling with NDIS-funded modifications after 1st December 2016 cannot be enrolled as an SDA. However, if you have such a dwelling, you can still apply for SDA funding to move to a different, purpose-built SDA dwelling.
